Birrang Drivers program lends a hand to disadvantaged locals

DRIVING: Often assumed as a straight-forward process, some locals struggle to get their drivers licence.

A regional community service provider is in town helping disadvantaged Kempsey locals get their drivers licence – something often taken for granted as a simple process. However, some members of the community struggle with licence and drivers test payments, proving their identity and actually getting driving lessons.

The Birrang Driver Licencing Access Program is available at no cost to people who are at a disadvantage when it comes to gaining their drivers license.

The Birrang Driver Licencing Access Program is being delivered over five weeks in Kempsey and runs three days per week.

There are classroom-based learning sessions in the morning and in-car driving lessons held in the afternoon with qualified RMS instructors.

Birrang provide support to the participants to overcome their individual barriers to obtaining a license including assistance with their Proof of Identity, assisting with fines and RMS business restrictions and access to relevant learning resources.
