Birrang: stepping stone to employment for our people |

|
VISION STATEMENT
Birrang’s vision is to support communities in the creation of training and employment opportunities for Indigenous people that will have a positive effect on their lives, families and communities. Birrang is a stepping stone for Aboriginal people through the delivery of the following programs:
Employment; Training and development; Education; and Business development.
BACKGROUND
Birrang Enterprise Development Company Ltd (“Birrang”) was established in 2003 and has been in continuous operation since its establishment. Birrang was established as a regional based employment service provider offering employment and related services to Indigenous people of the Western areas of New South Wales.
The name Birrang is a Wiradjuri word meaning HORIZON. This word was chosen to highlight a new direction for doing business with Aboriginal people in the employment and training areas.
FUTURE DIRECTIONS
Since 2003 Birrang has expanded and diversified its operations and currently administers the following State and Federal Government Programs: · Community Development and Employment Program (CDEP); · Indigenous Employment Program (IEP); and New Careers for Aboriginal People (NCAP).
Birrang’s expansion has meant we are now operating throughout a number of rural and remote areas in New South Wales such as the Riverina, Central West, Southern and Far West.
Birrang aims to achieve: · Community and individual training and development, opportunities for skill development to create job readiness; · Culturally appropriate specialised training and mentoring to increase the employability of our clients; and · On the job training to increase Indigenous employment in the workforce. The area or region covered is the "Binaal Billa" region of NSW. This region covers approximately a third of NSW taking in major towns and cities such as Bourke, Parkes, Forbes, Lake Cargelligo, Dubbo, Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow and Coonabarabran.
