Community Programs

We help keep your community strong

Birrang offers activities and project to communities to build strength, pride and economic growth through the CDEP program.

Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) program

The Community development stream of the CDEP focuses on supporting and developing Aboriginal communities and organisations through activities and projects. CDEP providers have funding to ensure community development projects line up with local job opportunities and builds skills through practical experience.

Projects should link to community priorities which are identified and developed by the Community and put together in Community Action Plans by the CDEP provider.  The plans support the needs and vision of the community and set goals, actions and targets to improve the quality of community life. Community Action Plans are reviewed and updated annually, to reflect changing community priorities. Progress against goals is also monitored regularly.

CDEP providers work closely with community members and other relevant providers to obtain services that will improve training and employment outcomes. This can include helping families access other support services available (eg  housing & health) and addressing things that stop people from being able to attend training or employment.

Projects that Birrang have worked with the community to support and grow the community include:

  • Plant Nursery
  • Re-vamping a war memorial
  • Planning and opening a retail nursery
  • Preparing the race track for the local picnic races
  • Rubbish pick up & recycling
  • Cultural art & crafts
  • Property maintenance – including gardening
  • Fencing and cleaning up cemetery
  • Green waste management
